Omonike Akinyemi, MFA (University of Southern California) is artistic director of Image Quilt Cinema & Dance Theater. Omonike cut her teeth dancing with Ballet Hispanico of New York in the 80’s and 90’s. A two-time fellow in Film and Screenwriting with the New York Foundation for the Arts, Omonike has created original works for both film and stage set in New York, Paris, and urban centers throughout the world. Omonike seeks to continue to direct films and choreograph dances of energetic force to inspire dialogue. She is an Adjunct Professor of Dance at Union College. Omonike is developing a documentary on the life of choreographer Manuel Alum, as well as new narrative fiction works for film that delve deep into flamenco and African dance forms.
